Chapter 136

Women can be like a hurricane

Mai clenched her fists, glaring at her husband, who was just sitting before her with the courtesan nearly straddling him. Her face was beginning to assume a red shade, as anger was boiling the blood in her veins. She cleared her throat, getting Sesshomaru’s attention.

The demon lifted his head, hearing the sound and froze with his golden eyes wide-opened and a look of bewilderment all over his face. Before him stood none other than his wife in an attire of a courtesan, with her shoulders bare and the large cleavage, that was leaving hardly anything to imagination. She was sending him a look full of resentment and anger. The woman rested her hands on the hips, currently towering over Sesshomaru. She cast a quick glance at the confused courtesan, who was glued to his side. Having seen that glare, the dog demon unceremoniously pushed the woman away, not paying any attention to the fact, that he did it so forcefully, that she landed on the wall, groaning and trying to get up. Mai arched her eyebrow.

“Fancy meeting you in a brothel, dear.” Mai said in an ultimate wife’s-tone, that was exclusively reserved for the men, who come back home with a trace of lipstick on their collars.

“It is not what you think.” Sesshomaru replied quickly, realizing after a while, how foolish it sounded. Mai frowned even more.

“Really?” she asked slowly, folding her arms. Despite the uneasy situation with her catching him in an indecent place like this, the inu-youkai’s eyes stole a glance at her breasts, before looking her in the eye again.

Mai shot him another scolding glare.

“Good to know, what are you doing in your free time.” She said, her voice cold like ice. “Fooling around with whores, despite being married… You’re the worst!”

The girl screamed her last words, while snatching a cup of sake form Haganori’s palms and spilling it right into Sesshomaru’s face. Both the blacksmith and Suzu were gawking at the pair with their eyes wide-opened, as though they were watching a Brazilian soap opera. Sake was dripping from Sesshomaru’s face, as the bewilderment and surprise in his eyes were replaced by anger. He jumped onto his feet and with one long stride closed the distance between himself and Mai. He glared at his spouse from above, towering above her, but she refused to be intimidated, when she met his eyes.

“You misunderstood.” Sesshomaru said, barely refraining himself from growling at the woman.

“Misunderstood?!” Mai exclaimed. “Were you dragged here by force? You… you cheating bastard!”
The dog demon narrowed his eyes at his angered wife, who was making a horrible fuss and kept insulting him. He lowered his head, so that their faces were closer to each other.

“Do not dare to suspect me of such foul actions, woman!” He growled at her. She opened her mouth to come up with another retort, but Sesshomaru finally managed to ask the crucial question. “What are you doing here, woman? Dressed in such an unsightly attire at that.”

“Hmpf!” Mai put her hands back on her hips, glaring daggers at her husband. “I’m here, because I was kidnapped. What excuse do you have?”

Sesshomaru furrowed his brows, hearing the disturbing news.

“Kidnapped?” he repeated, ignoring Mai’s question.

“Did you think I got a part-time job as a whore, because I don’t earn enough money working as Rin’s babysitter?” the girl asked in a mocking tone. She rolled her eyes, before offering her stupid husband the explanation. “The slave traders sold me and Rin to this brothel. The owner blackmailed me, that if I don’t go and do what a courtesan should, she will kill the kid.”

Sesshomaru nodded, acknowledging, that his ward was held here as well. He glided past Mai, wanting to go and search for Rin. Just when he reached the doorframe, he heard his wife’s scream.

“Gah!” Mai yelped, as her breasts got groped from behind by the drunk blacksmith Haganori.

“Hey, sweetheart, you were supposed to take care of me.” He muttered, giving her boobies a squeeze. Mai’s eyes widened and her face flushed from anger mixed with embarrassment.

Sesshomaru whirled around and flexed his fingers, ready to defend his wife’s honor, but the woman was somehow faster. She instinctively grabbed a bottle of sake and slashed it against the old man’s face. The blacksmith staggered backwards, his face covered in blood and the shards of glass stuck in his flesh. He fell on his butt, what gave Mai opportunity to release her anger upon the perverted man. The inu-youkai winced, as he saw the woman lift her leg and, using all her human strength, stomp on Haganori’s manhood, definitely crushing it.

“Serves you right, you lecher!” she was screaming, before lifting her leg again and repeating the painful blow. Sesshomaru never saw Mai in such infuriated state. Apparently she could take care of defending her honor by herself, he thought, watching the woman turn Haganori’s jewels into pulp, while the blacksmith kept wailing from the unbearable pain.

The commotion drew the attention of the brothel’s owner, who hurried towards the source of screams. As Akako slid the door open, she gasped, taking in the sight – the new girl was just kicking one of the regular customers vengefully, while the other one was reeking of sake, that was dripping from his face. Suzu, who was sitting in the corner, her kimono disheveled and with a large bruise on her arm, darted past the dog demon and Akako, fleeing from the room.

“What is happening here?” the demoness asked, making Mai stop torture poor Haganori, who curled into the ball, covering his precious and severely injured private parts. Akako took a step back, seeing the powerful youki, that began flaring around the inu-youkai.

“My ward. Where is she?” the demon asked in calm, yet terrifying voice. The woman in red flinched – she wasn’t that stupid to ignore such a danger.

“Ward?” she asked.

“The kid, that was with me.” Mai said, leaving her victim and coming closer. She tried to pull her clothes up to cover herself a little bit more, but it was useless. She stopped at Sesshomaru’s side.

Akako gulped, weighing her options. It looked like the slaves, she bought, were stolen from someone else. Bad luck. Under different circumstances she would offer to pay, but she doubted, that she could negotiate with the furious dog demon. The youkai woman forced a polite smile onto her lips, set on solving the problem without the bloodshed.

“Oh, I understand. It seems, that we have a little misunderstanding here.” She said, snapping her fingers and ordering one of the demon bodyguards to bring Rin. She turned back to Sesshomaru, bowing with respect. “I am terribly sorry for such an unfortunate occurrence. I had no idea, that this woman and the child are your slaves. If I knew…”

“This woman is not my slave.” The dog demon interrupted Akako, sending her a cold look. “She is my wife.”

The demoness gasped.

“Wife?” she repeated, looking surprised. True, the woman told something like that, but she didn’t believe her. Luckily in a moment the bodyguard fetched the little girl, who ran straight to the inu-youkai. Without any further hesitation, which could cost Akako her life, the red-haired demoness took out two controllers and squeezed them quickly. The collars on Mai’s and Rin’s necks clicked, opened and fell to the ground.

“Sesshomaru-sama!” the child exclaimed happily. The dog demon patted the girl’s head and turned to his angery-looking spouse.

“We are leaving.” He commanded and began heading towards the entrance. The two females followed him, Mai glaring daggers at his back. Just when the demon was in the doorway leading out to the streets, the demoness Akako stopped him.

“Wait!” she called after him and caught up to the dog demon. She fished a small bottle out of her sleeve and passed it to Sesshomaru, bowing deeply. “Please accept this medicine as a humble compensation for this misunderstanding.”

The dog demon eyed her suspiciously, carefully taking the bottle and examining it with distrust, as he had rather unfortunate experiences with unknown liquids before.
“What is it?” the inu-youkai demanded.

The demoness winked at him and smiled in a suggestive way.

“It’s supposed to improve one’s performance.” She said quietly, casting a quick glance at Rin, before coming closer to the dog demon and whispering, so that the child wouldn’t hear. “Your wife is still a virgin, so I thought, that you may need this…. To solve your problems.”

Mai’s face turned red and she nearly burst in laughter, when she heard Akako’s words. Sesshomaru looked extremely uneasy.

“I do not have any problems.” He said quickly, trying to shove the bottle back in the demoness’s hands, but Akako was persistent.

“It is not uncommon, that some men have trouble with…” she kept nagging, pointing with her eyes at Sesshomaru’s crotch.

“Enough!” The inu-youkai snapped and yelled at Akako. He whirled around and stalked towards the inn, taking exceptionally long strides. Mai couldn’t hold it anymore and began giggling uncontrollably, barely able not to bend in half. Rin was looking between Sesshomaru and the older girl, not understanding their weird reactions. The dog demon glanced at his spouse in a scolding way.

“We are leaving, woman.” He hissed out to Mai, feeling utterly humiliated. The girl frowned.

“A cheating bastard like you has no right to tell me, what to do.” She retorted, sending him an accusing look.

The dog demon opened his mouth to offer his answer, but Mai already whirled around, treating him like an air and stomped out of the brothel, dragging Rin behind herself.

Sesshomaru frowned, displeased by the woman’s attitude. How dared she humiliate him so?

Once Mai stormed out of the building, she literarily bumped into their two other companions. Jaken squeaked, as he collided with Mai’s legs.

“Jaken, Kohaku!” the girl let out a relieved breath, seeing them safe and sound. Then, she furrowed her brows, seeing the reactions to the two. Jaken immediately jumped back, gawking at the legs, as Mai’s kimono had a long cut, which exposed her leg nearly to the hip. His face turned darker green, what was probably a sign, that the imp was blushing.

“How shameless.” He muttered.

Mai shot him an angered glare, folding her arms. The gesture, however, made the things worse, for Kohaku’s eyes nearly popped out of the sockets, before the boy set his gaze on his feet. Suddenly the girl became self-conscious. Because all the commotion she completely forgot, how skimpy dressed she was.

“Cover yourself.” She heard Sesshomaru’s deep voice right behind her.

Mai stiffened, hearing that cheating pig. She felt her blood beginning to boil in her veins from fury. Slowly, she turned around and lifted her chin, glaring at the dog demon with hatred. She rested her hands on her hips.

The inu-youkai readied himself for another one of Mai’s tirades, but nothing like that came. She stayed silent and cast him a meaningful look, as though he was not worthy for her to even grace him with a word. Sesshomaru felt alarmed, as he knew that look – when his mother was glaring at father like that, it always meant trouble for him. To think, that his own wife was looking at him like that now… was simply disturbing.

Then, the woman slid her kimono off her shoulders and puffed her chest, making the cleavage bigger, so that her womanly assets were highlighted.

“Hmpf!” she snorted and whirled on her heel. “Jaken, lead the way, will you?”

Sesshomaru stood in place, frozen, as fury was welling in him. She did that on purpose. His damnable wife did this to show him, that she disrespected him. The demon clenched his fist, observing his companions leave without him. Jaken only cast a quick glance behind and shook his head, sighing heavily.

“Damn you, Mai.” The dog demon hissed out and followed the group.

While on the way towards the rest house, Sesshomaru and his companions were getting a lot of the townsfolk’s attention. Male demons were gawking with sparking eyes at Mai, who was stomping confidently, dressed like a courtesan. Jaken was trotting in front of her and the kids at her flanks. With the enraged face, the young woman was making, it looked like it was some kind of a battle formation. Some of the men wanted to come closer and try to woo the human girl, their intentions apparent, but they were freezing in place, when they saw the dog demon, who was stalking in some distance behind the group. His eyes were flaming red, the gaze set on the woman’s back. His powerful demonic aura was swirling around him, causing the other demons back away instantly.
Sesshomaru had every intention on telling his insufferable spouse, what he thought of her behavior, but the place was not right. A marital spat on the streets would only make a crack in his dignity bigger, if it was only possible. Therefore he waited till he and his companions, including Mai, found themselves in the peaceful isolation of the apartment in the rest house.

Just when the door behind the dog demon closed, he swiftly approached his stubborn wife and snatched her arm, preventing her from walking away. Mai glared at him over her shoulder, equally angry. She was so infuriated, that even Sesshomaru’s red eyes didn’t scare her.

“Let me go.” She hissed out through the clenched teeth.

However, the inu-youkai didn’t have such intention, as his hand remained, where it was – trapping Mai’s arm. He straightened his back even more, towering over the short girl. He intended to intimidate her, but this time she was prone to his antics. She also straightened her back, lifting her chin up in a prideful gesture. The height difference between the two could have indicated, that Sesshomaru would be the obvious winner of the silent battle. However, Mai’s anger matched his. For a longer while neither of them broke the tense silence, they were glaring at each other, as though wanting to bring down the opponent with a mere gaze.

Finally, Sesshomaru broke the silence.

“You humiliated your husband in public, woman. Again.” He said slowly, barely refraining himself from growling.

Mai snorted with disdain.

“Serves you right, you scoundrel.” She said in a calm voice, what was unusual for her. Sesshomaru furrowed his brows, alarmed by that tone, simultaneously ignoring the epithet he just had received.

“I warn you, woman. Do that again and…” the dog demon began, but Mai interrupted him.

“And what?” she snapped. “You have no right to open your disgusting mouth, you two-timer! We’re married for a week and you’re already cheating on me with some whores? Are you a dog in the heat or what?!”

Sesshomaru blinked, slightly dumbfounded by the tirade. Mai’s face was red from anger and she was already opening her mouth to grace her husband with another load of insults.

“You’re the worst, you rake!” she screamed into the dog demon’s face and demonstratively turned around, showing her back to him. Sesshomaru gripped the girl’s arm tighter and tried to drag her closer to himself.

“You misunderstood.” He said with the intention to make the damnable woman understand, that he kept his fidelity to her.

Mai glared at him over her shoulder.

“Misunderstood?” she said in a tone, indicating, that a storm was coming. “Are you trying to tell me, that finding you in the brothel with a whore sitting on your lap was an illusion?! You’re pathetic!”

Sesshomaru stared at his wife, who was now fury incarnated. Even though he did not approve of Mai making public scenes, he understood the reason of her anger. The circumstances, in which they met, may have been… suspicious and definitely it was not working in his favor.

“Mai, be silent and listen to me.” He said in a commanding manner, wanting to make his wife stop accusing him falsely, even though it may have seemed to be justified for her.

“Mai?” the girl repeated mockingly after Sesshomaru, glaring daggers at the demon. “You suddenly remembered my name. Wow, miracles do happen.”

The inu-youkai responded to the sarcasm with an angered glare. He felt the barely controllable urge to shake his damnable spouse and growl at her. Not only her behavior was highly unacceptable, as she should have refrained herself from mocking him and insulting, but also she refused to let him prove his point. Unknowingly, he increased the pressure of his fingers on Mai’s arm. The woman kept glaring daggers at him, but she winced slightly, what made Sesshomaru realize, that he was hurting her. Immediately he let go off her arm.

Mai send him the last accusing look and turned on her heel, now free from the demon’s grip. Without saying a word, she stalked towards one of the rooms. Sesshomaru followed her, stomping. Jaken, Rin and Kohaku were gawking at the scene, dumbfounded by the fierce argument.

Once the girl was in the doorway, she whirled around and narrowed her eyes at the inu-youkai, who was about to enter the chamber after her.

“I don’t want to look at your face.” She said in a grim tone and slid the door shut, just right before Sesshomaru’s nose. The demon froze in place, hardly believing, what she just did. He heard the sound of bolting the door.

Mai closed her eyes, as she leaned against the closed door. She stayed motionless for a longer while, but that cheating asshole must have gone away. She clenched her fists, pissed. Jerk! How could he?! The girl perfectly knew, that both of them had been blackmailed into marrying each other, but that shithead Sesshomaru couldn’t hold out even a week and went to this cursed whorehouse! Mai stomped across the room, her heels making much noise against the wooden floor.

“I hate you!” she shrieked, grabbing a vase, which was nearby, and smashing the innocent item against the wall.

After another vase followed the previous one, Mai began pacing around the room, not in the state to sit down. She felt like murdering Sesshomaru. Or rather castrating him – it would be pure justice. Damn, she knew, that the asshole had a lot of character flaws, but to pull out something like this… It was horrible. Anyway, what was she expecting? The two-timing gene must be in his blood. His father two-timed his wife, Inuyasha was a two-timer too, so the gene had to resurface.

Mai kicked a small decorative table, turning it upside-down. These violent gestures somehow made her feel better, especially, when she was imagining, that it was Sesshomaru, she was kicking. The girl felt like screaming from rage. Wasn’t it enough, that she was forced to get married? Seriously, couldn’t the demonic asshole be at least a decent man? It was a little nightmare, but she had some hope, that with time everything would work out. Now, after today, she was certain, that nothing would work out. It was one huge, sad mistake!

The girl stared outside the window, her face becoming a motionless mask, as she reached her resolve. She let out a breath. Now she had a good reason for divorcing him. Actually, she should be grateful for Sesshomaru for providing it so quickly, but surprisingly she wasn’t. She was mad at him. And disappointed. Mai shook her head, feeling the tears beginning to well in the corners of her eyes. Carefully, she wiped them with the hem of her kimono, before they escaped her eyes. She hated the thought, that Sesshomaru would see, that she was crying because of him.

“I hate you.” She said, now her voice sounding not harsh at all, more like a miserable whimper.

Sesshomaru clenched his fist and leaned on his arm against the door, listening to the noises, that were coming out of the closed room. The heard the clatter of porcelain, most probably his wife was so angry, that she began destroying the furniture. He furrowed his brows. Never before he witnessed the woman behave in such way. True, she was feisty and had the annoying habit of arguing with him much too frequently, but what she was doing now was a first.

“I hate you!” he heard her yelling at the top of her lungs. It was obvious, that it was addressed at him.

Sesshomaru grinded his teeth and stomped away from the bolted door, as he saw no point in reasoning with the damnable woman in this moment.

The other three companions were gawking at him, still and silent, as though they were holding their breaths.

“Mai is very angry, isn’t she?” Rin whispered to Kohaku.

The boy nodded, observing the inu-youkai with the corner of his eye. Sesshomaru sat on the bench by the window and was looking at sakura trees, that were blossoming, despite the fact, that it was late autumn. Or rather he pretended to observe. Kohaku shivered slightly, seeing, that the inu-youkai seemed to be murdering the poor flowers with his glare. Kohaku sighed discreetly and decided not to interfere in his savior’s marital problems.

“Come, Rin. Let’s eat something.” The boy ushered the little girl towards the nearby table and coaxed her into eating the dinner, entertaining her as he could.

Jaken sat with the children and kept stealing glances at his master from time to time. It appeared, that the imp would like to tell the dog demon something, but he had no suicidal tendencies.

With time the atmosphere became unbearable. Kohaku and Jaken were doing their best to behave normally, but they were horribly stiff and the conversation was forced. Rin was sitting silently, worrying for the dog demon and Mai. When two hours from the spat passed, everyone was sitting in silence, overwhelmed by Sesshomaru’s gloomy presence.

The inu-youkai was sitting in the same place, motionless like a statue. He was waiting for Mai to leave the room, but obviously she had no intention to do it. Jaken sighed inaudibly. Both his master and his brand new wife were horribly stubborn creatures and neither of them seemed to be eager to make a first step. He didn’t want to interfere in Sesshomaru-sama’s private matters, but the situation was becoming unbearable. Letting out another heavy sigh, the imp stood up and cautiously approached the dog demon. For a while he just stood there, waiting to be noticed. Finally, Sesshomaru-sama glanced at him.

“What do you want?” the dog demon demanded harshly.

Jaken gulped, as he began to suspecting himself of possessing some suicide tendencies after all.

“I just wanted to suggest… It would be wise if you apologized to Mai, Sesshomaru-sama. Maybe she’ll forgive you.” He said shyly and almost immediately regretted his decision to meddle, for the dog demon’s intense glare seemed to kill.

“I have nothing to apologize for.” Sesshomaru snapped, sending Jaken a warning look. “She should explain herself for her disrespectful behavior first.”

The imp refrained himself from rolling the eyes – his master was truly a stubborn one. It could be painful later on, but it was a servants duty to help his master any time, wasn’t it? Jaken took a deep breath.

“Sesshomaru-sama, I think, that you should be the first to talk, after all.” The imp suggested, bravely withstanding Sesshomaru’s glares. “She is behaving like that for a reason.”

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at Jaken, who sent him a meaningful look, as though he was accusing him of infidelity as well.

“I did not do anything improper.” The inu-youkai said. Jaken nodded, agreeing with him.

“Of course you didn’t.” the imp replied, but Sesshomaru sensed, that the words of his servant were not honest. The imp lowered his voice and whispered: “But, I would suggest caution next time, so that she wouldn’t find out.”

Immediately Sesshomaru’s boot landed on Jaken’s face, conveying the message.

“I committed no adultery.” The dog demon hissed out, furious, that even his trusted servant thought so lowly of him.

However, no one seemed believe his words. Kohaku looked away, obviously sharing Jaken’s opinion and Rin looked at him, biting the lower lip, doubt in her brown eyes. The demon clenched his fist, as he realized, that the situation went too far.

“Out.” He said calmly. Seeing, that his companions were still not moving, he repeated his order, more harshly this time. “Everyone out!”

As on the mark, Jaken and the children fled their apartments, heading towards the gardens of the rest house. Once they were out, Sesshomaru stood up and directed his footsteps towards the door to the room, where Mai locked herself in. He stood still for a moment, calming himself down before the inevitable confrontation.

“Woman, I need to speak with you.” He said, trying to make his voice sound confident and calm.
On the other side of the door Mai’s head snapped up, as she was sitting with her knees pulled up to her chest, her back leaning against the bolted door.

“I don’t want to!” she shouted back, making Sesshomaru frown. But, he was expecting this kind of defiance.

“Open the door.” He said.

“Hell no! Go away!” his insufferable wife answered right away. The inu-youkai nodded to himself. Speaking with her through the door would led him nowhere. It had to be done face to face. He closed his eyes, letting his nose to see – he felt a silhouette on the other side of the door, as accurately, as though he saw it. Then, he opened his eyes and placed the clawed palm on the door in the place, where the bolt was.

Mai shrieked from fear and surprise, as Sesshomaru’s hand pierced through the door, right above her head and literally ripped the bolt off the door. The girl barely had the time to jump to her feet, when the door slid open and the dog demon casually entered the room. The girl stared at him, not quite believing, that he went in just like that. However, this moment passed quickly. Surprise vanished from her eyes to be replaced by the anger once again.

“I said, that I don’t want to look at your face!” she hissed out, but the demon flipped her words off.

Confidently, he stalked towards her, resolve reflecting in his golden eyes. Mai instinctively backed away, till she found herself plastered against the wall. The dog demon’s hand darted out and snatched her shoulder, before she would manage to escape him.

“Let me go, you cheating bast…” she began, but Sesshomaru didn’t let her finish.

“SILENCE!” the inu-youkai bellowed. Mai stared at him, startled, suddenly forgetting about insulting him and carrying on with another tirade of hers. The demon leaned over her, intently looking in her eyes. “Now you will listen to me.”

Sesshomaru made a pause, as though expecting more defiance, but Mai was simply too surprised by the sudden outburst to come up with a retort. He decided to use that rare chance to make things straight.

“I did not betray you.” He said solemnly. “I merely wanted to discuss some matters with the other man and he insisted on visiting this place.”

Mai arched her eyebrow. Was Sesshomaru talking about the perverted old man with a pulp instead of jewels?

“What matters?” she asked, still not believing the dog demon.

“Sword forging.” The dog demon replied immediately. “That man was a blacksmith. I did not want to go there, but he agreed to discuss it only there.”

Mai blinked, hearing the ridiculous explanation. Well, normally she would assume, that it was a lie, a poor one at that, but that solemn look on Sesshomaru’s face… Plus, he wasn’t really a good liar.
Actually, it could be true. She perfectly knew, that the demon would do almost everything for all this sword-bullshit. The girl folded her arms.

“Do you expect me to believe, that you’re that stupid to get yourself dragged to a whorehouse by some old pervert?” she asked.

Sesshomaru didn’t answer her, but was staring at her. A lack of answer is an answer too.

“I would never betray you.” He mumbled, sliding his hand down Mai’s shoulder and closing his fingers around his palm.

The girl blinked, surprised by the gentle gesture. Somehow, she knew, that Sesshomaru’s words were sincere. Just looking at his face was enough. It’s better that he was slightly stupid than two-timing. She really wanted to believe him, but she had to be entirely sure.

“Swear on Rin, that you told me the truth.” Mai said suddenly, causing the dog demon to frown at her demand.

“I swear.” He muttered finally, displeased of how much he managed to humiliate himself during this short talk with his wife.

A faint smile appeared on Mai’s lips. She really felt relieved and a little bit guilty that she put up such a tantrum. Well, Sesshomaru was to blame for it – hadn’t he been such an idiot, the whole situation would never have occurred.  Plus, the demon’s declaration of fidelity was kind of nice to hear. It was rare for Sesshomaru to say those kinds of things. Actually, the girl would like to hear more of it…

“Hm… Should I believe you?” she asked her husband, faking doubt. It was mean, but she wanted to teach Sesshomaru a lesson.

The dog demon furrowed his brows, surprised and disappointed, that his shameful declaration did not bring him a complete victory. Despite how much he humiliated himself before her, his damnable wife still doubted him! Clenching his teeth, he gripped Mai’s small palm tighter and pulled the woman closer to himself, so that she nearly bumped into his armor. He leaned down over her a little.

“You are now the only woman for me.” He barely managed to cough out such shameful confession, looking at Mai seriously, while using his most convincing tone. “As I am the only man for you.”

The girl’s face instantly turned red. She stared at the demon with her brown eyes wide-opened, feeling, that her ears were almost on fire.

Sesshomaru decided, that adding one more humiliating thing seemed to be worth it – the adorable blush indicated it. He felt the small hand shaking a little under his fingers and thought, that the moment should be right. He lowered himself a little more, focusing his gaze at Mai’s sweet lips.

CRASH!

Then a loud rumble was heard, when Jaken, Rin and Kohaku fell inside the apartment, along with the door and the doorframe. Sesshomaru sent his companions a hateful glare, displeased, that he had been interrupted.

“We’re sorry, Sesshomaru-sama.” Kohaku muttered shyly.

Mai narrowed her eyes at Jaken and the kids. It was too obvious, that they were eavesdropping. She sighed and shook her head. At least they saved her from Sesshomaru. The moment before… was awkward. She had no clue, why she hadn’t moved and stood in place like an idiot. That jerk Sesshomaru nearly seduced her again! Damn. She should have slapped him. Why hadn’t she done it?
